The 110th Anniversary of the Birth of Yanka Kupala





The obverse:
in the center - the view of the Cupolas of the Cathedral of Interession on the Moat and the Saviour's Tower, above it to the left - the two-headed eagle, under it to the right - the mint trademark. The inscriptions along the rim: at the top — «БАНК РОССИИ» (BANK OF RUSSIA), at the bottom in tree lines — "1 РУБЛЬ" "1992" (1 RUBLE 1992).





The reverse:
the profile depiction of Yanka Kupala, to the right - the dates in two lines - "1882" and "1942", below - the inscription with a floral ornament in the background - "ЯНКА КУПАЛА" (YANKA KUPALA).

Yanka Kupala (Ivan Dominikovich Lutsevich, 1882-1942) - a people's poet of Belorussia (1925) and member of the Belorussian Academy of Sciences (1928). His collections of verses ("The Psaltery Player" and "The Road of Life"), poems ("The Dream on the Burial Mound" and "The Lion's Grave") and plays ("Pavlinka" and "A Ravaged Nest") have close ties with classical Russian literature and are steeped in national tradition.
