International Space Year





The obverse:
in the center - the view of the Cupolas of the Cathedral of Interession on the Moat and the Saviour's Tower, above it to the left - the two-headed eagle, under it to the right - the mint trademark. The inscriptions along the rim: at the top — «БАНК РОССИИ» (BANK OF RUSSIA), at the bottom in tree lines — "3 РУБЛЯ" "1992" (3 RUBLES 1992).





The reverse:
the symbolic depiction of the Virgo constellation represented by a woman flying in the starry sky, to the right - the depiction of the Earth, the inscription along the rim divided by an asterisk : "МЕЖДУНАРОДНЫЙ ГОД КОСМОСА" (INTERNATIONAL SPACE YEAR).

The space age began on October 4, 1957, when the Soviet Union launched the world's first artificial earth satellite. Soviet cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin was the first man to fly into space on April 12, 1961, and American astronauts Neil Armstrong and Edwin Aldrin were the first men to land on the Moon on June 21, 1969. Ever since nearly 4,000 spacecraft have been launched and more than 1,000 manned flights have been made. The United Nations declared 1992 International Space Year.
